Compoëzietie

Julia is an Utrecht-based graphic designer who has developed into an independent artist over the years, with a particular love of language (she is also a Dutch teacher!).

For years, Julia has been collecting words that she cuts out of newspapers and magazines. She cuts the words - that catch her eye - out of the original text and keeps them in a little box. Every once in a while, she turn this box upside down onto the dining table and begins the slow process of forming a new text from these word fragments. An image is created to accompany it and a "compoëzietie" of text and image is born. The base for these collage poetry artworks is her own carefully crafted handmade paper, which is a recurring thread throughout her work.
